Acupuncture

Originating in Eastern Asia, Acupuncture has become a popular choice of treatment in Western countries, with more and more patients turning to acupuncture for the treatment of many chronic conditions

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles into specific acupuncture points on the body. This small action can trigger a cascade of effects from increasing endorphins to boosting immune functioning to the releasing anti-inflammatories (important in the reduction of swelling and aiding healing). This holistic approach to health and well-being encourages the body’s own natural healing response.

What happens during a treatment?

Your first appointment may last up to an hour and a half, this is because a full medical history will be taken which will include details of any medication you are currently prescribed. A detailed discussion about the symptoms or condition you are suffering from will help your acupuncturist determine the best treatment plan for you.

During your treatment very fine needles are inserted into specially selected acupuncture points, the needles then remain in place for up to 30 minutes. During this time you can switch off and relax to soothing music in one of our peaceful treatment rooms.
Your treatment may also include other techniques such as remedial massage, acupressure, electro-acupuncture, heat therapy and taping.

A course of treatment is often recommended, the amount of treatments recommended will depend on the condition being treated, how long you have suffered from this problem and how well you respond to the treatment. Subsequent treatments will usually take 1 hour.
